Top Flight Sixty-Four
These graphics have been updated for the start of 2013-14.
There wasn’t a London team in the First Division of the Football League until its 17th season, I read. That’s interesting, I thought. Et cetera, et cetera and so on… I made this:

You can also click here for a version without the club name text repeated. It’s less informative, but less cluttered and nicer to look at.

I don’t in any way wish to suggest that this is anything other than a magnificent, informative and beautiful creation but I am not sure about some of the geographical areas you have created. For example I would be inclined to move Carlisle into the North-East group (renaming it North) and redesignating the remainder Lancashire. After all Carlisle is a lot nearer to any of the three North East teams than the closest team (Blackpool I think) in the North West region. Might also be an argument for including Glossop with the Lancashire teams for similar reasons but not sure what you’d call it then.
Would also be inclined to split up your South region – put Watford and Luton in with Ipswich and Norwich in a new East region, Bristol City into a Wales and South West group and the remainder form a new South group with the South Coast teams. Just trying to balance elegance and geographical reality.
Yes, I agree. I wasn’t totally happy with my regions myself when I made it. Thanks for your thoughts – I’ll bear them in mind if I redo it in the future.
This is hands down one of the most cool blogs I have seen in a good while if ever. Football AND graphics AND stats. I’m blown away.
